disclaimer : hello it is frank again and i gonna write a english version for english readers ( seems the world first tamron 150 600  test was written by me while i still running it.wyswig.com  , sorry for bad grammar again) . now i running frankster.digital with my friends and  hopefully we can bring you some cool stuff about electronics goods or photography related stuff  .

The Third party lens these days are really did their job , from optical design , image quality or other spec like focus / coating / resolution they may on pair or even better than the camera manufacturers itself . Like Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art , in most test it better than those 85mm rival . As Tamron being more focused by people since their SP series are launched , and we expected they gonna launch the new TAMRON Trinity , here is the one of them  the " Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2(Model A025"

we don’t post about those boring spec , MTF chart which are too boring and spread on internet already , we may dig inside and talking about them next time  if you guys like it =D
we don’t always do english article so if any grammar mistake made please let us know , and we will made more post in English channel if any interested

( i am happy if anyone like our work and think our article are useful to them =D )

Here are the list of existing Tamron new SP series :

Tamron SP 35mm F1.8 Di VC USD(Model F012)
Tamron SP 45mm F1.8 Di VC USD(Model F013)
Tamron SP 85mm F1.8 Di VC USD(model F016)
Tamron SP 90mm F2.8 Di Macro VC USD(model F017)
Tamron SP 150-600mm F5-6.3 Di VC USD G2

honestly these SP series lens wasn’t that bad but the aperture was a bit slower (F1.8 only) and for some spec they are not really perfect , i still prefer sigma if you looking for prime lens (yep , thats what i say hoho , the truth )

But this time , the  TAMRON Trinity did his job and i will rate it better than my CANON 70-200 F2.8 IS II , and for some user who own sony A7 series too , you may consider buy this and use with adapter , instead of buying the expensive sony 70 200 F2.8 GM lens . (i suggest people spend more money on prime which provide best quality , or some light modifier instead of buying really expensive zoom lens , except you really need zoom or using for event work )

in short , tamron 70 200 G2 advantages or new improvement :

  • NEW fluorine coating which are damn good for cleaning (tested and i wipe it with cloth / fingers no problem )
  • DAMN FAST focus speed and no hesitation in between
  • High resolution design so i can feed up monster high pixel count camera these days
  • The MSRP are cheap enough ( 10,980 HKD = 1,415 USD , 9,980 HKD preorder with gifts , and i expected it will be like 9,5xx in those camera store after a short period )
  • good ghosting / flare / purple fringing control

some minor problem or design i think may be a issue to user (or just my use-case) not too important but i still want you to know :

  • the zoom ring was placed on front , where i hold the tripod (balance point for whole camera setup and i can reach zoom ring on canon easily , harder on tamron)
  • the zoom ring was a bit stiff while factory new , may improve after certain of usage
  • the hood still a tamron plastic hood with no premium black cloth like canon , wont collect dust but you cant have best ghosting / reflection reduction
  • from our short test , the T stop seems slower on tamron than canon , for user not AB test you may not notice the different

There was a lens bags come with the lens (sorry no lens case , actually stock lens case was useless ,like my canon one… i use lowepro lens case instead)

The protection of the lens bags : seems prevent from scratch , it still usable if you put lens in bags that have padding , for extra protection please use a good lens case !

There was a soft rubber at the filter thread , which appear on the old tamron 150-600 first and now the 70200 G2 also have this design , it will help to protect the lens from ramming stuff . (seems it also prevent filter jammed to the filter thread)

it come with two screw and a driver

Tamron did use ARCA standard design on the tripod mount , started from the Tamron SP 150-600mm F5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 , you can mount it on the tripod directly if your ballhead was ARCA standard , the screw come from the box was for extra safety / direction block so people who do like “slide in" wont accident slide the lens out because the screw will hold it

frank: there are a joke about photographer arrived the location for landscape and “DAMN! i for got to bring the mount plate" , now tamron solve the problem ROFL
to use the ARCA standard tripod mount ,  ARCA license was needed , itwas a extra cost to the manufacturer ,welldone tamron you saved me some bucks from buy a extra mount plate LOL

if your ball head have the anti lock / safety lock itself you may not need to put the screw on

compare to Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM ,Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 have better curve and it looks like “as one piece" because the tripod mount “integrated" into the lens body but not looks like  a extra ring (well this one depends on your taste)

no mount plate needed , just install it on tripod using the ARCA stadnard

a close up, it did hold it tight and firmly , no problem

switches of VC mode , VC ON/OFF , AF/MF / FOCUS DISTANCE LIMITER

compare to canon switches , these switches are easier to reach and use , but the problem is all switch you will have same feelings because they are the same =[ you may pushed a wrong switch when hurry

ok now compare to my canon

both using 77mm filter , but the big one looks a little bigger

compare two of them you will see canon was a little bit longer

Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 was about 7-8mm shorter than Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM. some website or review may say “possible have better mobility" but honestly it seems no big difference

you can see there are little rubber ring under the lens caps on TAMRON ,that was the rubber bumper i talking about

following video is a short demonstration Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 focus speed test

body used : canon 5DSR , full charged

How fast the 70 200 G2 USD motor compare to canon ?
1. tamron end to end seeking under normal light condition -200 mm
2. canon end to end  seeking under normal light condition -200 mm

You can see they did running really fast and dont forget tamron did running from 0.95M focus distance to the infinity , while canon was 1.2M focus distance to the infinity . Tamron running on longer path (in theory , actual distance for focus element to run still depends on optical design)

to see how fast it focus confirmation , we do 70mm
3. tamron focus speed test under normal light condition – 70 mm
4. canon focus speed test under normal light condition – 70 mm

Some third party lens will do slow down and struggle towards the final focus position , but this time Tamron G2 did well , it move to final position in fast speed , spot on and no hesitation .

if you got anything want us to test it out , we can arrange it and grab the lens again and test it for you =D

we also got a short sharpness test (not a lab test , just for reference)
